july11d-o-g-1The phrase, “Double Doodle” is popping up all over the place in the doggie world. What exactly is a double doodle anyway? Where can I find Double Doodles? Why would you want a Double Doodle anyway? Who has one, so I can see what they look like?

Lots and lots of questions, so let’s get to some answers for you!june14graham

A Double Doodle is a name given to the cross between a labradoodle ( lab x poodle) and a goldendoodle ( golden retriever x poodle.) It is an allergy friendly dog, in most cases. A dog that has hair, rather than fur so you are not going to find shedding hair everywhere, like you might with a lab or a golden retriever. Another name for this cross is the North American Retriever.

Finding someone with a Double Doodle is hard to find! There are just a handful of breeders breeding this new breed. Outside of the U.S. I have not seen any breeders yet. The families that have a Double Doodle are usually very happy to introduce you to their Double Doodle. I recently took, what I believe is, the first Double Doodle to Amsterdam. This Double Doodle puppy was purchased by a seeing eye dog school called Desudo. Their Double Doodle was seen by many as a television station came out and filmed their Double Doodle, Lesley as well as a labradoodle, Logan, that they bought from me. You too can also view some of the show by clicking on the link here. http://www.telegraaf.nl/video/binnenland/4429922/__Doodle-pups_naar_hondenschool__.html

The reason for breeding the Double Doodle is to create not only a beautiful, allergy friendly pet, but a dog that has a calm disposition, but an eager to learn and serve type attitude. With the combination of lab, golden retriever and poodle, you will find a work horse type dog, that is calm, but also intelligent and allergy friendly. These are very beautiful dogs, but very useful and happy dogs.

july11wrigleyWhere can you find one? At Pine lodge Labradoodle, we are so excited about on Double Doodles, that we will be breeding more in the future! Contact Heidi and she would be happy to help you understand about this breed and to reserve a puppy from the next litter.

So whether you call it a labradoodle, a North American Retriever or whatever, this breed is here to stay!
