I have had a couple of people from The Netherlands ask us how we will be celebrating the 4th of July, The United States Independence Day. I thought I would tell you a little bit about what we did.

Most people celebrate the 4th of July with the 4 F’s:
Family
Friends
Food
And Fireworks!

We decorate in Red, White and Blue. We wear red, white and blue. And we eat red white and blue!

We enjoyed the day with some of our family coming over. We also had some friends. We decorated the lodge with a little red, white and blue.

We ate hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and brautwurst (made out of local deer) on buns. We had chips and salads, salsa and pineapple/jalepeno pico. For dessert we had red/white and blue jello, blackberry pie and yummy cheesecake. (I ate a piece for you Peter and Michelle :)

Then of course we had to build a fire and toast marshmallow’s and make s’mores! Yum! Yum!

As the sun goes down, the fireworks come out. Our granddaughter’s had done there’s the night before. Some of the family headed over to Mt. Angel to watch the town’s firework display.

The older dogs do not like the fireworks noise. The puppies don’t really care about it at all.

It’s been a nice day of relaxing and celebrating the great people who have sacrificed so much for each of us, to have the country we have today. We have some really beautiful songs that tell of the sacrifice and love people have for our country.

I realize some of you reading this may not be American. I am sure you have a love for your country and those that worked so hard and sacrificed so much for you, to have what you do today. It’s a wonderful thing!

It looks great. It reminds me a bit of Bonfire Night in the UK, only you have your celebration at a much nicer time of year! The food looks delicious. Tom was watering at the mouth!!! But hey, that’s my Tom!

I’m glad I made Tom hungry! You know that poor boy never eats! It’s funny how much fun you can have, just cooking outside… kids always love it.
